BONGAO, Tawi-Tawi | July 6, 2026 — The Ministry of Public Works (MPW)–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), through the Tawi-Tawi District Engineering Office, formally turned over two newly constructed student residence halls to the Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU TCTO) during a ceremony held on July 6, 2026, at the University grounds.
Funded by the BARMM Government, the infrastructure project consists of two two-storey buildings with roof decks designed to serve as student dormitories. Building A will serve as the Male Dormitory, while Building B will accommodate female students. The new facilities are expected to provide students with safe, comfortable, and accessible on-campus housing, further enhancing the University's learning environment and student support services.
The turnover ceremony gathered officials and representatives from the Ministry of Public Works–BARMM, university officials, faculty members, administrative personnel, students, and guests in celebrating another milestone in the University's infrastructure development.
Representing the Ministry of Public Works–BARMM, Tawi-Tawi District Engineering Office, Mr. Omar-Nageeb U. Isnani, Administrative Officer V and Chief of the Administrative Section, formally turned over the completed residence halls to MSU TCTO. The ceremonial turnover signified the agency's continued commitment to supporting educational institutions through infrastructure projects that promote quality education and improve student welfare across the Bangsamoro region.
In his message, Assoc. Prof. Alcyn R. Bakkang, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, underscored the importance of the new residence halls in promoting student welfare by providing a secure and conducive living environment that supports students' academic journey and overall well-being.
Meanwhile, University Chancellor Prof. Mary Joyce Z. Guinto-Sali, PhD, expressed the University's sincere gratitude to the BARMM Government and the Ministry of Public Works for their steadfast support in strengthening MSU TCTO's physical infrastructure. She emphasized that the newly completed dormitories reflect a shared commitment to expanding access to quality higher education and ensuring that students, particularly those coming from distant municipalities and island communities, have access to safe and reliable accommodation while pursuing their studies.
The program concluded with the ceremonial turnover and ribbon-cutting, officially marking the transfer of the completed facilities to the University. The completion of the two student residence halls marks another significant step in MSU TCTO's continuing efforts to enhance its campus facilities and provide a more supportive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment through strong collaboration with the BARMM Government and its partner agencies.
