To achieve its goal, the College of Education is tasked to accomplish the following:
1. Plan, adopt, develop and offer academic curricula/programs in different fields of specialization that answer the teacher education and professional manpower needs of the community in the elementary, secondary, tertiary and advanced education;
2. Develop students to become teachers who are not only equipped with relevant content, assessment, pedagogical and technological knowledge and skills but also imbued with desirable character, work ethics, self-discipline and sense of nationalism;
3. Nurture teachers who are cognizant and responsive to the needs of their socio-cultural environment;
4. Develop teachers who can conduct research, provide extension services and introduce innovations for the benefit of their profession and their respective communities;
5. Provide adequate facilities and maintain a standard laboratory school for the training and exposure of pre-service teachers;
6. Provide support and encourage its faculty members to pursue advanced studies in their respective fields at reputable universities in the country and abroad;
7. Provide support and encourage its faculty and students to actively participate in the local, national and international conferences and other professional meetings to keep abreast with and share relevant knowledge and practices with colleagues in the profession;
8. Provide support and encourage its faculty and students to publish their research outputs in reputable journals and for its faculty to develop and produce instructional materials such as course modules, monograph and books;
9. Establish linkage with other teacher education institutions, government agencies and professional associations to forge collaborations on relevant undertakings;
10. Forge partnership with the local government units in related undertakings and seek relevant support for its programs and activities; and
11. Train future and current teachers in relevant specializations through pre-service and in-service trainings, reviews, seminars/seminar-workshops, and conferences for the effective transfer of learning that spurs socio-economic activities, peace building and development in the Sulu Archipelago.
Established in 1990, the College of Education has evolved into a premier academic unit committed to developing highly skilled, values-driven, and globally competitive educators. The College operates an Integrated Laboratory School (MSU TCTO CoEd ILS) with Elementary, Junior High School, and Senior High School departments, serving as a training ground for pre-service teachers.
