Embracing the Currents: An International Conference on the Sulu Archipelago: Scholars Converge for the Kick-Off The University of the Philippines—Center for Integrative and Development Studies and Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi, in collaboration with the Philippine Studies Association (PSA, Inc.) and with support from the Australian National University (ANU) Philippines Institute, inaugurated “Embracing the Currents: An International Conference on the Sulu Archipelago” today, November 12, 2024. This multi-day event will bring together a diverse range of scholars to discuss the Sulu Archipelago's unique cultural, historical, ecological, and geopolitical dynamics. As a region of immense significance, the Sulu Archipelago serves as a bridge between communities and cultures, offering new perspectives on its evolving role in local and global narratives. The Mindanao State University – Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU TCTO) has achieved a notable accomplishment in its debut participation in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, placing 1,411th globally among institutions recognized for their commitment to sustainability. Nationally, MSU TCTO ranked 78th among Philippine universities, and notably, it emerged as the first and only institution in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to be included in this global sustainability assessment.
