The Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU TCTO) has entered the 2027 QS Asia University Rankings for the first time. The University placed in the 1,501+ bracket of the regional rankings published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), placing MSU TCTO as 238th out of 304 participating universities in Southeast Asia.
The University's inclusion marks an important step in its efforts to establish a stronger presence in the regional higher education landscape. It also provides an opportunity to assess its performance alongside universities across Asia and identify areas for continued improvement.
The QS World University Rankings evaluate higher education institutions using indicators related to academic and employer reputation, research, faculty resources, internationalization, and international research collaboration. Through these measures, participating institutions gain a broader perspective on their academic standing and areas that may require further attention.
For MSU TCTO, its first inclusion offers a starting point for monitoring institutional progress in succeeding ranking cycles, particularly in strengthening research productivity, academic partnerships, and international engagement.
The University's entry into the QS World University Rankings: Asia adds to its participation in international assessments, including the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings and UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. These platforms provide different perspectives on institutional performance, from contributions to sustainable development to environmental sustainability and broader academic competitiveness.
University Chancellor Prof. Mary Joyce Z. Guinto-Sali acknowledged the milestone as a result of the collective efforts of the University community. She expressed her appreciation to the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and institutional partners whose contributions continue to support the University's academic and institutional development.
The Chancellor also emphasized the importance of sustaining these efforts and building on the University's existing initiatives to further strengthen its academic performance and international presence.
As MSU TCTO continues to expand its academic and research initiatives, its entry into the QS Asia University Rankings provides another reference point for evaluating its progress and pursuing improvements in higher education.
