BONGAO, TAWI-TAWI – In a groundbreaking development for Philippine higher education, the Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography (MSU TCTO) is set to offer the Bachelor of Science in Oceanography, becoming the first higher education institution in the Philippines to offer an undergraduate degree program in Oceanography and the first in Mindanao.
The pioneering program was initially approved by the Mindanao State University System University Council during its May 2026 session and was formally approved by the MSU Board of Regents today, June 19, 2026, representing a major advancement for MSU TCTO and the future of marine science education in the Philippines.
The new 171-unit undergraduate program reflects the University's continuing efforts to provide innovative and relevant academic offerings that respond to the country's emerging scientific, environmental, and developmental needs.
